At its second annual Google Play Live event, Google Play Points, the rewards program launched in 2019, is unveiling its latest set of benefits and bargains. Notably, Android users can now use the points they accumulate to access rewards from external partners, including Walmart+, DoorDash, and Discord.
Initially, Play Points were created to offer incentives to users who downloaded new apps, subscribed to services, and made purchases such as movies and books from the Play Store. In return, they earned points that could be used for in-app acquisitions or converted into credits for renting movies or purchasing audiobooks, among other options.
The program initially debuted in Japan in 2018 and South Korea in 2019 before expanding to the United States. Google subsequently enhanced the program by offering tangible perks like Google-branded merchandise and partner rewards, such as discounts on delivery services like DoorDash and Instacart.
Google is now adding Walmart+ and Discord to its roster of partners, extending the partner rewards program. However, users should note that they will need to be Platinum members (those with 3,000 points or more) to access these rewards, and the availability of Walmart+, DoorDash, and Discord perks will come in the following weeks, not immediately. These perks will encompass a six-month Walmart+ membership, six months of DashPass by DoorDash, or six months of Discord Nitro, all without the need to redeem points.
Additionally, Google Play Points can now be redeemed with ten game developers for in-game items in titles such as Lord’s Mobile: Kingdom Wars, PUBG MOBILE, Match Masters, Evony: The King’s Return, and Clash of Clans. Points can also serve as a booster in these games, providing users with 8x points on in-game items for seven days.
Furthermore, Google will introduce offers on popular apps and games, including extended specials for Bumble, added value in select rewards for Candy Crush Saga, a one-month free trial for Duolingo, up to 80% savings on special events in Gardenscapes, and 50% more material rewards and essential resources in RAID: Shadow Legends.
