Unite for Mac releases a new version to turn websites into web apps

Earlier this year, Apple unveiled macOS Sonoma during the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), introducing a feature that allows users to transform websites into “web apps” and seamlessly add them to the dock. In response to this announcement, Unite, a platform offering similar functionality, has now unveiled an enhanced version, Unite 5, which boasts robust customization options.

Unite 5 streamlines the process of creating web apps, providing an intuitive interface for users to input a URL and select a logo, along with additional settings like link forwarding, compact mode, and menu bar integration. This marks the first major update for Unite, developed by Binyamin Goldman, in three years since the release of Unite 4 in 2020.

The new version of Unite expedites web app creation by offering a preview feature before adding the app to your dock. For those who prefer not to manually input URLs, Unite 5 introduces a suggestion section, categorized into popular genres like social media, messaging, storage and file sharing, entertainment, email, and productivity. This feature streamlines the process of adding popular websites to your dock. Unite 5 also features an app library function, allowing users to launch, edit, or remove web apps as needed.

Unite 5 introduces a powerful search function, enabling users to search for apps within their library or discover new ones for creation. Additionally, the new link-forwarding functionality lets users set default redirections for specific links per app, allowing for seamless integration of various apps and browsers.

Unite 5 offers extensive browser-based functionality, including the ability to toggle toolbar and title bar visibility, change the default search engine, and create multi-tab apps using its integrated browser. The update also enhances support for the menu bar, synchronizes notifications with focus modes, improves bookmarking, and offers more extensive customization options for keyboard shortcuts. Furthermore, Goldman has revealed plans to release Unite for Teams in the coming year.

Unite 5 is available for $29.99 for a single Mac license, with provisions for additional licenses. Existing users of Unite 4 can upgrade to Unite 5 for $19.99.
