YouTube has updated its guidelines to expand monetization opportunities for adult content, permitting videos featuring nudity during breastfeeding and non-explicit dancing. Creators can now earn ad revenue on breastfeeding videos, even if the areola is visible when a child is present. Previously, monetization was limited to videos without visible areolas. The updated policy allows monetization for content demonstrating hand expression or breast pump usage with visible nipples and a baby in the scene. Monetization restrictions persist for breastfeeding content without a child, emphasizing contextual references to breastfeeding.
YouTube acknowledges the value of breastfeeding videos as a resource for parents, aiming to provide creators the opportunity to monetize such content. The platform lifts restrictions on dance content involving grinding or twerking, allowing it to earn ad revenue. However, monetization remains restricted for dance videos with explicit shots, extreme minimal clothing, or sensual moves resembling sexual acts.
While implementing these changes, YouTube emphasizes adherence to community guidelines and advertiser-friendly content guidelines for all content. Content eligible for monetization is being re-reviewed, and the ability to display ads on qualifying videos is being activated.
This policy adjustment coincides with other recent YouTube policy updates, including measures for responsible disclosure on AI videos and tools for requesting the removal of deepfakes. The rise of AI necessitates additional policies to address manipulated media and prevent misleading viewers about synthetically created content.
