Amazon has officially launched the capability to generate AI-powered images on Fire TV devices. This feature is now accessible in the U.S. for users possessing a second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max and Fire TV Omni QLED Series.
The innovative Fire TV feature harnesses the prowess of Amazon’s Titan Image Generator, which was unveiled at the AWS re:Invent 2023 conference in November. Similar to other image generators like Stability AI and OpenAI’s DALL-E 3, the Titan model translates written prompts into images. However, what sets Fire TV’s AI feature apart is its activation through voice commands to Alexa using the TV remote, enabling users to create images through spoken instructions.
For example, users can say, “Alexa, create a background of a fairy landscape,” prompting the generation of four images. These images can be further customized by selecting from diverse artistic styles such as impressionistic, watercolor, and fantasy. After choosing the final image, users have the option to save it and set it as their TV background.
Although the Titan model has the capability to customize existing images, the Fire TV feature will not include this functionality at its initial launch. Amazon has not provided an update on when users will be able to input personal photos into the generator. The image generator is integrated into the Fire TV Ambient Experience, transforming the TV into a smart display featuring backgrounds created by artists or personal photos from an Amazon Photos account. This experience was recently extended to the Fire TV Stick 4K Max after being initially available in Amazon’s Omni QLED lineup of Fire TVs.
The announcement aligns with Amazon’s broader strategy of enhancing the Fire TV experience. The company revealed several updates during its 2023 devices event, including improved voice search capabilities, allowing users to ask Alexa more specific questions, such as finding titles based on cast, directors, and genres, or even describing a movie scene.
Today’s revelation also follows Amazon’s introduction of three new generative AI-powered Alexa experiences, including playing the “20 Questions” game, engaging with AI characters, and crafting custom songs.
