Bertelsmann Takes Lead in $22.5 Million Funding Round for Rozana: Empowering the Future of Media and Content Delivery

Established in 2021 by Ankur Dahiya, Adwait Vikram Singh, Mukesh Christopher, and Prithvi Pal Singh, Rozana has rapidly gained traction by offering a diverse selection of over 5,000 products to rural consumers. Operating across 12,000 villages in 13 districts spanning Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, Rozana has emerged as a leading player in the rural ecommerce segment.

A key differentiator for Rozana is its innovative last-mile delivery model, which relies on a network of 18,000 hyperlocal ‘peer partners’ at the village level. These delivery partners, predominantly comprising women, play a pivotal role in consolidating orders and facilitating timely deliveries within their local communities. Leveraging this grassroots network, Rozana has established a strong foothold in rural markets, catering to the needs of approximately 30 to 40 households per delivery.

Rohit Sood, Partner at Bertelsmann India Investments, commended Rozana’s disruptive business model and its unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction. Sood emphasized the potential for Rozana to effect meaningful change in the lives of millions of individuals residing in rural areas. The partnership with Rozana underscores Bertelsmann India Investments’ dedication to supporting innovative ventures that drive positive socio-economic impact.

In the competitive landscape of rural ecommerce, Rozana faces formidable contenders such as Shop101, backed by InMobi, and social commerce startup CityMall. However, with its customer-centric approach, robust operational framework, and strategic partnerships, Rozana is poised for continued growth and market leadership in the burgeoning rural ecommerce sector.
