Kost Capital Launches Inaugural Fund for European Food Tech Startups Investment

Danish VC Fund Aims to Transform Food Industry Through Innovative Startups

Kost Capital, a newly established Danish venture capital fund, is on a mission to revolutionize the food industry by investing in innovative startups across Europe. With a focus on B2B inputs in the future of food, Kost Capital has launched its inaugural fund with an initial target of €25 million.

The name “Kost” translates to “diet” in Scandinavian languages, reflecting the fund’s commitment to bringing better food options to a wider audience. Operating in synergy with Kost Studio, a food development studio and test kitchen, Kost Capital aims to foster collaboration between universities and markets to develop novel food products.

General Partner Bodil Sidén, along with LPs Kasper Hulthin, Christian Tang-Jespersen, Mark Emil Hermansen, and Jacob Lee Ørnstrand, leads the venture. While the exact amount raised remains undisclosed, backers include the Danish sovereign fund EIFO and Kost’s founding limited partners.

Kost Capital has already made significant strides with three investments in European startups. These include Äio, an Estonian palm oil replacement company, Numi, a French infant formula company, and Nutrumami, a Danish ingredient company.

Sidén’s journey into venture capital began in Swedish politics, where she held roles such as a member of the Moderates’ national party board and press secretary to the Fredrik Reinfeldt government. Transitioning into the tech world, she worked for Uber in the Nordics, gaining valuable insights into scaling tech companies and marketplaces.

Previously involved in forming blq invest, a Stockholm-based venture capital fund focused on hands-on company building, Sidén joined forces with Kamjar Hahabdolahi and Erik Halvord. After successfully managing two funds, Sidén was approached by the investors behind Kost, seeking a general partner to help build a platform and set strategy. Over the past year, Sidén, along with senior associate Paul Archambeau, has been actively shaping Kost Capital’s vision and strategy in the dynamic European food tech landscape.
